The first step of persuasion is to identify those people that at a given time are persuadable to your point of view and focus your energy on them
Understand context and timing to create a relative standard of what’s acceptable
Know you need to demonstrate your interest in each individual in order to captivate their attention before you can persuade them to be interested in what you are saying

Build Relationships

Pay it forward by providing small (but meaningful) gestures of consideration to others
Recognise the value of persistence by being willing to continue to ask for what you want while also demonstrating the value you bring
Compliment sincerely for the things they aren’t typically complimented for, this shows a more holistic understanding on your part of knowing and appreciating at a deeper level

Deepen the Relationship

Learn to manage other’s expectations to trust your judgement, then over-deliver
Face up to hard-truths that need to be voiced and do this from a place without judgement or agenda
See unconscious behaviours such as body language, cadence, and language patterns to mirror and match to build a sense of rapport where people feel more comfortable with you and become more open to your suggestions
